First cut
Independent documentary
The documentary already had archive. What was missing was the present: the hands, the room, the noise you only hear when the radio goes off.
85 mm for the detail. 35 mm for the place. We shot two mornings, no chair interviews. The voice comes in off, recorded later, when the camera was gone.
The first cut was watched in the workshop, not a boardroom. If the subject did not recognize themselves, it was cut.
